Krypton Spectroscopy Diagnosis of High-Temperature Implosions

چکیده
High-temperature implosions are planned for the OMEGA Upgrade experimental program. By using relatively thin shell targets, temperatures much higher than 1 keV at modest compressed densities (1 to 5 g/cm3) are predicted. The goal of this work is to demonstrate that by adding a small admixture of krypton gas (-0.01 atm) to the fuel, the temperature can be conveniently diagnosed through the spectrum of helium-like (K,'~') and hydrogen-like ( ~ r ' ~ ~ ) lines. By increasing the fill pressure, resonant Kr lines can become opaque, through selfabsorption, and their relative intensities can be used to diagnose shell-fuel mixing.

Diagnosis of high-temperature implosions using low- and high-opacity krypton lines.
High-temperature laser target implosions can be achieved by using relatively thin-shell targets, and they can be diagnosed by doping the fuel with krypton and measuring K-shell and L-shell lines. Electron temperatures of up to 5 keV at modest compressed densities (~ 1-5 g/cm3) are predicted for such experiments, with ion temperatures peaking above 10 keV at the center. It is found that the prof...
متن کاملDevelopment of a krypton-doped gas symmetry capsule platform for x-ray spectroscopy of implosion cores on the NIF.
The electron temperature at stagnation of an ICF implosion can be measured from the emission spectrum of high-energy x-rays that pass through the cold material surrounding the hot stagnating core. Here we describe a platform developed on the National Ignition Facility where trace levels of a mid-Z dopant (krypton) are added to the fuel gas of a symcap (symmetry surrogate) implosion to allow for...
متن کاملInfluence of krypton atoms on the structure of hydrogenated amorphous carbon deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition
Hydrogenated amorphous carbon a-C:H films were prepared by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition using methane CH4 plus krypton Kr mixed atmosphere. The depositions were performed as function of the bias voltage and krypton partial pressure. The goal of this work was to study the influence of krypton gas on the physical properties of a-C:H films deposited on the cathode electrode. Krypton c...

Coherent Rayleigh-Brillouin scattering (CRBS) in krypton at room temperature and moderate pressure has been studied experimentally. The experimental data is in good agreement with the theoretical lineshape developed by the authors. In this paper, we describe the details of the experiment. We also discuss the application of coherent Rayleigh-Brillouin scattering in gas diagnostics.
متن کاملA Consistent Measurement-Based Picture of Core-Mix in Direct-Drive Implosions on OMEGA
68 LLE Review, Volume 86 Introduction The central goal of direct-drive implosions on the OMEGA laser1 is to validate the performance of the high-gain, directdrive ignition designs2 planned for use on the National Ignition Facility. Inferring the density, temperature, and fuel–shell mix of ignition-relevant capsule implosions is important in validating models of implosions. To this end, diagnost...
